As a child, the frontal lobe of the brain, where critical reasoning occurs, is not yet fully developed. As a result, coaching kids requires that I bring in a teaching component that a child’s brain can process like how to deal with situations that they might face—whether at school, with their friends, or even at home. I primarily use the Adventures in Wisdom Life Coaching story-based curriculum. My work has always centered around young people and how to enable them to feel comfortable and at ease while becoming their best selves. Based in Ventura, I specialize in using art as a healing tool and guiding children through creativity and self-expression. As an educator, I have worked with hundreds of children in my community (ages five through fourteen), and as a foster parent, I have mentored many teenagers. Afterwards, I create a game plan unique to their needs. Sessions are typically held once a week. They are 1 hour long and include a story, an activity or art lesson, and end with a take-home activity. Resources for parents and full breakdowns of what we’re working on in each session are sent home periodically so the skills we are developing can continue to be built upon outside of the sessions.
